Galaxy Studios Acquired by Kempense Investors Following 2023 Bankruptcy

Mol, Belgium – July 22, 2025. Galaxy Studios, the internationally renowned recording complex in Mol, has been acquired by a group of investors, following its bankruptcy at the end of 2023. The new ownership marks the start of a fresh chapter for one of Europe’s most celebrated audio facilities.

Founded in 1982 by brothers Guy and Wilfried Van Baelen, Galaxy Studios began humbly when the brothers transformed their father’s chicken coop into a recording space. Over the years, the studio grew into a world-class destination for artists, attracting global stars such as Rammstein, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and Lauryn Hill, as well as Belgian icons including Will Tura, dEUS, Clouseau, and Johan Verminnen. Beyond music, Galaxy Studios also became a fixture in the film industry, recording orchestral scores for more than 140 films and high-profile productions such as Studio 100’s musicals 40-45 and Red Star Line.

Despite its international reputation, the studio succumbed to financial difficulties in the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis, amassing debts of €8 million and resulting in the loss of multiple jobs. The acquisition by the new investor group, led by entrepreneur Wim Buyens, formerly of Barco - aims to restore Galaxy Studios to its place as a beacon of innovation in sound. “Technically and acoustically, the studio in Mol is unmatched,” says Buyens. “We see this as an international project that will serve not only music artists, but also the film and gaming industries where sound is fundamental.”

The new investors are committed to continuing the expansion of Galaxy Studios, including the development of a hotel, office space, and an event venue alongside the recording facilities. Their vision is to create a multi-functional hub for creativity and sound innovation, solidifying Mol’s position on the international map.
